Keyhole surgery, otherwise known as laparoscopic surgery, is named so due to the tiny incisions that are made to carry out the procedure. It is a particular specialism of our consultant gynaecologist, Mr Mohammad Masood.
This highly skilled approach can prove a very effective and minimally invasive answer to many gynaecological issues. There is, for example, the option of laparoscopy infertility treatment, where conditions such as endometriosis and fibroids – that can cause problems when trying to conceive – can be treated with very little scarring and a very short recovery time compared to those of more invasive methods. As mentioned above keyhole surgery involves very small incisions, with the surgeon performing the procedure from a greater distance away from the area that is being treated – instead of having to access it via a direct, and often much larger, cut.
